Disgraced three-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker commentates on championships from dimly-lit bar

Disgraced three-time Wimbledon champion and former BBC pundit Boris Becker commentates on the championships from a dimly-lit bar on Instagram while referring to himself in the third person

  • Becker offered his opinion on Stefanos Tsitsipas who plays Andy Murray tonight
  • He was banned from returning to England until next year after he was deported

He was a stalwart of the BBC’s Wimbledon coverage for nearly two decades.

But now disgraced Boris Becker has been reduced to commentating on the championship – from a dimly lit bar on his mobile phone.

Speaking over loud music during a video on Instagram, the 55-year-old former tennis star offered his opinion on Stefanos Tsitsipas, who prevailed in a five-set battle against Dominic Thiem on Wednesday, before playing Andy Murray tonight.

Referring to himself in the third person, Becker, who now lives in Italy, also invited fans to ask him about his tennis career as well as his favourite food.

‘If you have any questions around Wimbledon, what to do and what not to do and anything else you ever wanted to know about Boris Becker regarding his tennis career, and his favourite dishes and so on…just ask,’ he says to the phone camera.

At the start of the week, the tennis star announced in a post that he would ‘give daily updates of the action in my living room’, dubbing it ‘Becker’s Best of Wimbledon’.

Becker has had to stay away from Wimbledon after he was jailed last year over bankruptcy for hiding £2.5million in assets to avoid his debts.

The three-time Wimbledon winner, who spent eight months in jail, was banned from returning to England until October 2024 after he was deported to Germany.

He has since spoken about how much he misses Wimbledon and claims he plans to return to work as a BBC pundit.

Becker began working for the BBC in 2002 – after retiring from tennis three years earlier – in a punditry career that included commentating on Murray’s victory at the All England Club in 2013.

In 1985, he became the youngest men’s singles champion in Wimbledon history at the age of 17.
