Sunrise loses yet another star from the studio after David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s exit

Natalie Barr gets emotional as Sunrise loses yet another star from the studio following David ‘Kochie’ Koch’s shock exit from the breakfast show

Sunrise said goodbye to yet another ‘invaluable’ studio worker on Friday.

Just weeks after David ‘Kochie’ Koch filmed his last days on the iconic breakfast show set, autocue operator Suzanna has bid the cast adieu.

The production operator has worked on the show for 22 years, but decided it’s time to move on to bigger and better things.

Host Natalie Barr, 55, was quick to say farewell to her colleague as the studio held a round of applause for the worker.

‘We are wishing good luck to Suzanna who has been rolling our autocue for more than 20 years. And she’s leaving us,’ Nat said in an emotional goodbye.

‘Whether it’s here in the studio or out in the field… all those memories. She’s been with us on so many occasions and done such an amazing job.’

Nat, 55, continued: ‘You are invaluable. We don’t like the fact that you’re leaving, but we have to let you go.’

Suzanna’s departure came just weeks after Kochie, 67, retired as co-anchor for Sunrise after 21 years working in the studio.

The breakfast show host made the announcement live on television, prefacing the bombshell with: ‘Before we move on, just a bit of news from me.’

He told viewers after ‘nearly 21 years and 5,300 shows’, he felt it was time to pass the torch to the next generation.

‘I started here before Facebook, before Instagram, before Twitter and iPhones. That’s how old I am,’ he said, as his co-host Nat became visibly emotional.

He continued: ‘I have loved every single minute of it and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved here over the last 21 years.’

The television star said the move would allow him to focus on his family and business interests – but he didn’t rule out a return to the Sunrise couch as a guest.

Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington was handpicked by Seven Network executives to fill Kochie’s shoes.

The Olympic sprinter, 44, took over as co-anchor of Sunrise alongside Nat on June 13, and his first day saw huge ratings from viewers.
