Paula Badosa gave a contender for the most awkward post-match interview of all time on Friday after retiring from her second round match at Wimbledon against Marta Kostyuk.
The 25-year-old was forced out of the second round clash through injury during the second set, and was then bizarrely told ‘Congratulations on your win’ by a confused interviewer.
She replied ‘I lost’, but the interviewer was undeterred and continued with two questions about missing games through injury. Both were met with one word answers.
Badosa clarified again that she had not won, before being quizzed on her fitness level and replying ‘I just retired, so yeah, I wish I could be better.’
It was a disappointing end to Wimbledon for the Spaniard, who has struggled with a back problem in the past few months and had raced to be fit in time for Wimbledon.

But she looked in discomfort out on the court today before retiring from the match after just over one set
Her last appearance on court came in May where she reached the quarter final of the Inernazionali BNL D’Italia in Rome.
Badosa, who made 20 unforced mistakes in the match, looked to be in some discomfort on court 18.
She did break Kostyuk in their opening exchanges on Friday, but struggled to hold her serve and lost the first set 6-2 before retiring at 1-0 down in the second.
Badosa was due to team up with her boyfriend Tsitsipas in the mixed doubles event, with the pair scheduled to take on Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek in the opening round, but will now withdraw from that too.

She was snapped on Centre Court giving the Greek tennis player’s coach and father, Apostolos, a side-eye, during the titanic clash that will be resumed again today.
The Spaniard was seen glaring at her boyfriend’s coach, looking less than impressed with the 55-year-old.
Murray won the third set before play halted at 11pm on Thursday night, putting him 2-1 up and a set away from a place in the third round.
Badosa has already made the headlines this week with a noticeably more vocal performance where she revealed that she had a sex dream about her boyfriend during a press conference.
‘Yeah, well, I was injured in Australia. I watched his match, the final. Of course I had jet lag because I was in Spain. I decided to watch that match,’ she said.
‘Surprising, because I never dream about tennis players, but I dreamt about him that night, that we were both winning Australian Open. Then it was like we were having a very romantic moment, but I’m not going to explain.
‘I’m just going to leave it there,’ she added laughing.
