Australian TikTok star reveals her terrifying experience of dating a pathological liar

An Australian TikTok star was shocked to discover that her European boyfriend was a pathological liar, who even faked his own mother’s death.

Amy Dickinson, 30, went on the adventure of a lifetime when she travelled around Europe for a year.

She even found love while in Amsterdam, but she was devastated when her visa ran out and she would have to leave her Dutch boyfriend to return to Australia.

But, not long after she returned home to Brisbane, Amy discovered that their whole relationship had been a lie.

While she was under the impression that they would try to have a long-distance relationship, he ghosted her, and she later discovered that something much more sinister was going on.

He had been lying to her about his whole life. His mother didn’t recently die and was very much still alive, he didn’t own a swanky apartment but lived with his family, and he didn’t own a successful business.

Explaining how she found out that the man she once loved was a pathological liar, Amy said: ‘I started following his sister on social media and I saw that she uploaded a photo of her mom on Mother’s Day.

‘I reached out to her and said “I’m so sorry. I know it would be your first Mother’s Day without your mom. I am so sorry about everything that happened and I’m thinking of you.

‘And she responded being like “What are you talking about? My mum hasn’t passed away.”‘

Amy then hopped on the phone with the man’s sister to find out about the extent of his lying, and they were both equally as shocked and distraught.

‘It is a confronting thing to think that somebody that you thought you knew so well you don’t know the first thing about their life,’ Amy told the Daily Mail Australia.

‘I had to assume everything was a lie and then work my way backward from that and work out what was the truth because that was easier than working out the lies because there were so many.

‘It turned out that there were only a few tiny elements of truth and then everything else was untrue, and it was unexpected, to be honest.

‘Like 12 days into knowing him his mom passed away very suddenly and I thought I wouldn’t hear from him again, but it was completely the opposite.

‘He came over the very next night, I gave him a present, I wrote him this poem and when he read the poem, he cried, and my friend and I both saw literal tears drop onto the ground.

‘And our hearts just broke, we both started crying.’

While the TikTok star, who creates funny videos under the username amzdicko on the app, wasn’t scammed out of money, she believes that she was ‘a test’ and he will do this again to women in the future.

‘It’s total Tinder swindler vibes and I think he used me as like a test run,’ she said.

‘He knew that I was only in the city for another two months, and he was using me because he’d only have to keep up the façade for two months and then I’d be gone.

‘But, he’d learn from that experience, and I believe that he’ll choose another victim and his lies will become more sophisticated, they’re con artists.’

Amy went on a date with the man after he initially slid into her DMs on Instagram.

She was drawn to his charm, and even posted about how quickly they fell for each other on her TikTok vlogs.

While they were only dating for a couple of months, Amy even hoped that he would move to Australia after her visa ran out.

‘It’s so funny to look back at my TikTok [videos] now because, after the first date, I was gushing about him and how nice it was meeting someone so interested in you,’ she explained.

‘But yeah, it just didn’t work out the way that I’d hoped, it turns out my beautiful Dutch man is not moving to Australia.’

While the comedian can somewhat make light of the situation when she discusses it online, Amy said there’s no doubt that it may cause trust issues in her future relationships.

‘I think it will be a challenge and I think it’s probably something that will manifest in the future when I decide to get into a relationship,’ she said.

‘I’m not sure how this has affected me yet, I haven’t experienced it. But, I’m prepared for a bit of trauma.’
