How swim coach Kyle Daniels’ twin brother Liam supported him through sexual assault trials

A swimming coach cleared of sexually assaulting nine young girls was steadfastly supported throughout his four-year-ordeal by his identical twin brother.

The strong bond shared between Kyle Daniels, 24, and his sibling Liam is revealed in in a series of photographs posted online while Kyle defended himself at two trials.

Liam’s Instagram features pictures of the pair smiling together, pouting cheekily for the camera while dressed in leggings and fluoro pink singlets, working out, and even throwing back shots with their parents.

Despite having never spoken publicly about his brother’s ordeal, Liam is understood to have supported him from the day he was charged.

Kyle was arrested in March 2019 over his alleged conduct at Mosman Swim Centre on Sydney’s lower north shore.

He endured a seven-week trial in 2020 and another which ran for ten weeks in 2022 before the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions decided not to proceed with a third.

Daily Mail Australia understands the twins no longer live at home with their parents, Janine and James, instead living together with their Staffordshire bull terrier, Jack.

It’s understood their bond was just as strong when growing up; the twins mingling in the same friendship circle, playing the same sports and at one point working at the same swim centre where the crimes Kyle was once alleged to have committed took place.

As young adults, the brothers even shared a joint Instagram account detailing their fitness gains, posting videos of their weight training at a Fitness First gym.

Recently they’ve been more interested in cardio and resistance training, attending an F45 gym where they shared a photo of themselves alongside their mother.

The twins were born in Johannesburg in 1998 and went to school in South Africa and Singapore before moving to Sydney in 2014.

Kyle was appointed a school prefect at the prestigious Knox Grammar school in 2016 and played first-grade water polo before enrolling in a sport science degree at Sydney University in 2017.

Their father James is a South African advertising guru who had worked as the global creative director of renowned agency Saatchi & Saatchi, based in Singapore.

Their mother Janine is a leadership coach specialising in neuroscience.

While still in Year 12, Kyle undertook a swimming teacher accreditation course at the Mosman Swim Centre, in one of Sydney’s most expensive suburbs.

He first worked as a swim teacher at Ravenswood School for Girls before applying for a position at the Mosman centre in late 2016.

However, his world came crashing down when serious allegations were made against him in 2019.

Kyle was accused of assaulting two students aged six and eight during private swim lessons at the Mosman Swim Centre between February 2018 and February 2019.

At the time, Liam was also working at the centre but quit the day his brother was taken into custody.

Kyle’s arrest prompted more girls to come forward with allegations that he touched them on or near their genitals between February 2018 and February 2019.

He stood trial for 21 offences relating to the alleged sexual touching of nine girls, aged between five and ten.

Kyle pleaded not guilty to all charges and has always denied any wrongdoing. Hee had the complete support of his parents, with the couple often sitting through almost every day of court.

In December last year, the decision to drop the charges entirely came after a jury found Mr Daniels not guilty of 10 counts against him, including serious charges of sexual intercourse with a child under 10.

Crown prosecutor Tony McCarthy said at the time: ‘The Director of Public Prosecutions directed there be no further proceedings in relation to any of the outstanding counts.’

Despite having been cleared of committing any criminal offence, Mr Daniels was still pursued by police who continued to seek restraining orders against the 24-year-old on behalf of five of the girls.

Those apprehended violence order applications were finally withdrawn and dismissed before a magistrate at Downing Centre Local Court on May 31.

Mr Daniels has kept a low profile since he was cleared of the offences and has not spoken publicly about his four-year ordeal.

His father James celebrated his son’s exoneration online.

In a post beside a photo of himself beaming in a beach towel with his arms around the shoulders of Kyle and his twin brother Liam, James wrote on Instagram: ‘A very happy heart.

‘For all who know, this is the best Christmas this dad could have ever wished for. Pure happiness and love. My boys!’

The photo, which shows the three men on Manly beach, appeared to have been uploaded to James Daniels’ Instagram page in January.
