‘It really is a dream come true’: Stephanie Davis reveals she ‘wrote a poem at 14 about being on Coronation Street’ as she lands role in ITV soap

Stephanie Davis revealed she landed her Coronation Street role ‘with her first audition back’ after a three year break from acting.

The actress, 30, quit showbiz to concentrate on raising her son after a rocky road in the limelight as her parents ‘dragged’ her to rehab due to her drinking three bottles of wine a day.

She revealed that from her teenage years her dream role was to be on the ITV soap and she even ‘wrote a poem’ manifesting the job.

Stephanie said when the role for married seductress Courtney Vance came available she knew after ‘reading the brief, this is mine’.

She told The Sun: ‘As soon as I read the brief for the character I was like, ‘This is mine. This is mine’. I did the audition then went through this wave of emotions. I do believe everything happens for a reason, but my first audition back? No one gets that.

‘I wrote a poem when I was about 13 or 14, which read, “One day I will be on the cobbles of Coronation Street”.

‘My mum had put it in her bedside drawer and got it out the other day. She said, “How amazing is that? You wrote that as a child as one of your dreams and now you’re doing it”. It really is a dream come true.’

Stephanie rose to fame when she was 17-years-old after taking part in BBC One talent show Over The Rainbow in 2010 in hope to perform as Dorothy in The Wizard Of OZ West End show.

She impressed Channel 4 bosses at Hollyoaks who invited her to audition and she joined the soap that same year playing teenage tearaway Sinead O’Connor.

However, despite her career going from strength to strength her boozy antics off-screen caught up to her and in 2015 she was sacked for arriving on set ‘unfit for work’.

A few years later, Stephanie was checked into rehab for alcohol addiction after several suicide attempts.

She has previously said that her mental health spiralled after appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in 2016.

During her time on the reality show, Stephanie met ex Jeremy who she embarked a turbulent relationship with.

Their on/off relationship resulted in public spats, domestic violence and a consequential three-year restraining order.

Jeremy was charged for domestic violence in August 2017 after being accused of assaulting Stephanie in a drug-fuelled row, and was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months and 200 hours community service.

She is now in a happy relationship with partner Joe Mckalroy.
