Racing off, Cara? Supermodel Delevingne shuts down grid chat with Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle, leaving F1 legend furious at British Grand Prix
Supermodel Cara Delevingne left a UK racing legend high and dry on the grid at the British Grand Prix on Sunday, after snubbing his request for a chat live on camera.
Former British racing driver turned broadcaster Martin Brundle, 64, was covering the live action from Silverstone when the 30-year-old model gave him short shrift when he approached her with a Sky Sports F1 microphone – leaving fans watching at home outraged by the model’s ‘rude’ response.
In the clip, with the Red Arrows roaring above, Brundle spots Delevingne nearby but is quickly told by an apparent security aide that ‘she doesn’t want to talk’.
Unperturbed, the racer-turned-broadcaster is clearly keen to get his chat anyway, saying: ‘That’s the deal now, everybody talks on the grid.’
Racer-turned-broadcaster Martin Brundle was told by a security aide that supermodel Cara Delevingne didn’t want to chat live on air today at the British Grand Prix
As he moves closer to try and make the interview happen, Delevingne’s face turns to a grimace but he blusters on, saying: ‘Can we have a quick chat at Sky F1? Good to see you on the grid.’
The supermodel, wearing a black trouser suit with a matching bra underneath and a black baseball cap, gives a curt ‘no’, shaking her head, before repeating ‘no’.
Clearly frustrated, Brundle tells her: ‘The deal is everybody has to speak on the grid…’
She responds, not making eye contact and looking away, saying: ‘I can’t hear anything, sorry.’
Brundle explained to the security aide that she didn’t have a choice, saying ‘That’s the deal now, everybody talks on the grid’
And so the racing legend ploughed on saying ‘Good to see you on the grid’
After he then asked for a chat, the supermodel, 30, said simply ‘no’, shutting down the conversation
Clearly annoyed, he tells viewers: ‘I’m sure it would have been extremely interesting’
Unimpressed, Brundle replies with more than a hint of sarcasm, telling viewers: ‘Okay, well, I’m sure it would have been extremely interesting’ at which point the model offered a thumb’s up to the camera.
Many of those watching the clip were outraged by her response to Brundle, although some said she had the right to say no to being interviewed on camera.
One wrote: ‘This man deserves more respect by celebrities. Why show up to F1 if you don’t want to be spoken to?’
She told him ‘I can’t hear anything’ without making eye contact
As he walks away, the supermodel raised her thumb at the camera
Another added: ‘Get these celebrities off the grid if they aren’t going to talk to the voice of F1. Half of them don’t even know which drivers race for the team which invited them.’
Delevingne has been enjoying the event season in the UK, and celebrated her first sober Glastonbury last month, declaring this year’s festival as ‘by far my favourite.’
The model partied with her pals Anya Taylor Joy and Stella McCartney, sister Poppy and girlfriend Minke at Worthy Farm, and posted a gushing message in tribute to her weekend on Instagram on Monday night.
Posting alongside clips of her favourite performances. Cara wrote that she has ‘been going to Glastonbury since I was 15 but this year was my first sober one and it was by far my favorite.’
