A Melbourne father who suffered a brain haemorrhage while holidaying in Bali has died just days after being flown back to Australia.

Raj Jayarajah, 43, was inside his Nusa Dua villa with his eight-year-old son, Ari, when he suffered a seizure, collapsed, and hit his head on June 30.

The respected businessman underwent emergency surgery before he was flown to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne via a repatriation flight.

A statement from Mr Jayarajah’s family revealed he died in hospital on Sunday, surrounded by his loved ones.

‘After arriving back in Melbourne by air ambulance, the team at The Alfred Intensive Care Unit performed a number of tests on Raj and informed us that there was nothing that could be done to save him,’ the statement said.

‘Since then, Raj has been surrounded by his family and close friends in Melbourne who have gathered by his bedside to say goodbye.

‘We are shattered to lose Raj so young – it’s a huge loss for so many people who loved him, most of all his loving family.’

The family said they were aware of the ‘incredible impact’ Mr Jayarajah had on those around him and that it was hard to imagine life without him.

They thanked ‘all of the incredible people who have cared for Raj since he collapsed in Bali’ and said plans to commemorate his life would be announced soon.

Mr Jayarajah had been on holiday when he suffered a seizure in his hotel room while his wife Emma was on a walk, forcing his eight-year-old son Ari to call for help.

Friend Andrew MacQueen helped organise the funds for a Life Flight which would fly Mr Jayarajah to the The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

The flight, which arrived in Indonesia on July 5, was funded by dozens of Australians who donated to a GoFundMe campaign last week.

More to come.
