England U21s manager Lee Carsley will sit down to discuss new contract in a FORTNIGHT after winning Euro 2023… but future is uncertain with Premier League clubs keeping tabs

  • The FA are keen to extend Lee Carsley’s contract as England U-21 manager
  • Carsley will sit down with technical director John McDermott in a fortnight
  • Several Premier League and Championship clubs are keeping track of him

England Under 21s boss Lee Carsley is set for talks with the Football Association, with his future up in the air after clinching the European Championship.

Carsley, on a rolling 12-month contract, mastermind a first trophy since 1984 and will sit down with technical director John McDermott in a fortnight.

The 49-year-old has not yet made his mind up on next steps, with clubs in the Premier League and Championship keeping track of his record with England.

The FA want Carsley to remain in his post and take on a new group of talent, which is likely to revolve around the likes of Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka and Bristol City’s exciting midfielder Alex Scott.

Gareth Southgate was in Georgia to watch England make history in beating Spain 1-0 in Saturday’s final, with Levi Colwill expected to make the step up to the seniors.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Curtis Jones and Jacob Ramsey have also impressed FA chiefs, while Anthony Gordon won Player of the Tournament.

Mail Sport understands that Carsley and his staff – along with the players – are not due bonuses for the victory, while assistant coach Joleon Lescott is set to leave.

Lescott is looking towards a more administrative role in football after working with Carsley and Ashley Cole through the two-year campaign.
