Ruby Rose reveals the hardest thing about living in America – and the most surprising change in Australia since returning Down Under
Ruby Rose has revealed the hardest thing about living in the US for a decade.
The Orange Is the New Black star, 37, recently returned back home to Australia after moving to Hollywood in 2013 to find stardom in Tinsel Town.
Ruby said she’s planning to spend more time Down Under and admitted living in the states is ‘draining’ and toxic, due to the attitude towards the LGBTQI+ community.
‘I don’t know that I have the emotional bandwidth and energy to withstand another year of living in the States with that anger and that oppression and what they’re doing to the gay community and the trans community – it has become so exhausting,’ she told Stellar magazine.
Ruby came out as a lesbian to her mother before she entered her teenage years, before recognising her sexual identity as being gender-fluid.

Ruby also explained what she found the most fascinating thing about Australia since returning.
‘I’m in awe of how technologically savvy everyone is,’ she added, explaining she used a QR-code to pick up prescription medication.
‘No-one in the United States is doing that.’
Ruby began her showbiz career as a model, DJ and TV presenter for MTV Australia.

As her popularity grew, she found herself fronting major modelling campaigns for big names including Maybelline, and co-hosting popular shows such as Channel 10’s The Project and Australia’s Next Top Model.
She moved to Hollywood in 2013, with her efforts paying off, as Ruby shot to fame in 2015 with her breakout role in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black.
Her acting career skyrocketed when she was cast in blockbuster movies such as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) and Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).
She starred alongside Hollywood royalty Vin Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017) and Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017).
In 2018, Ruby also co-starred with Jason Statham in sci-fi thriller The Meg.
However, her career took a turn for the worse in 2020 when she controversially left CW’s TV show Batwoman after just one season.
The star claimed she was subjected to bad working conditions on the set of the superhero series.
‘To my dear, dear fans still asking if I will return to that awful show, I wouldn’t return for any amount of money nor if a gun were to my head… NOR DID I QUIT,’ she wrote in a scathing online post.
‘I DID NOT QUIT, they ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me.’
She has since appeared in the films Stowaway, Vanquish, 1UP and Taurus over 2021 and 2022.
