School holiday crowds were evacuated from a busy Sydney shopping centre following reports of a fire.
About 1,000 people were moved from the Westfield shopping centre in Liverpool, in the city’s southwest, around midday on Monday.
Three people were reportedly treated for smoke inhalation.
It’s believed a possible electrical fire started near the centre’s JB Hi-Fi store.
Six fire trucks and 24 firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the scene alongside NSW Ambulance and NSW Police.
The fire has been contained but the shopping centre remained closed as of 1.30pm while staff cordoned off affected areas.
Local MP Charishma Kaliyanda asked shoppers to keep clear of the area while investigations continue.
‘The shop fire at Westfield Liverpool has been contained – please avoid the area so that Fire and Rescue NSW can continue to secure the area,’ she said.
More to come.
