A British father has been forced to have his leg amputated after being run over by a motorboat driven by his daughter who reportedly mixed up forward gear with reverse in a horrific accident while on holiday in Italy.
The man’s daughter was driving the boat in popular tourist spot Cannigione, Sardinia, when she ran over him and left him seriously injured.
Air ambulances descended on the scene and La Maddalena Coast Guard are now investigating what happened, according to Galluraoggi.
The father, left in complete shock, was rushed to Sassari Hospital where doctors found a serious wound on his left leg.
Tragically, medical staff had no choice but to proceed with a semi-amputation because his leg had been completely torn apart, local media reports.

The horror incident took place close to the beach in Cannigione and L’Unione Sarda reports that the daughter thought she was driving the boat forward but was actually in reverse.
She then ran over her father who was in the water, leaving him with life-changing injuries.
Cannigione is a small seaside village in Sardinia right by the popular Costa Smeralda. It features a picturesque beach with golden sand and crystal clear waters.
The former fishing village in northeastern Sardinia is an incredibly popular spot for snorkelling, scuba diving among other activities.
In May, four people died in Italy after a boat carrying British tourists capsized on the beauty spot Lake Maggiore.
A sudden whirlwind overturned the 52ft boat in the northern Lombardy region, plunging more than 20 tourists and crew into the icy waters of the lake.

Italian firefighters said 19 people, who had been celebrating a birthday on the boat, managed to swim to the shore.
But four, including a 50-year-old Israeli man, were found dead in the waters by rescuers, local television Tgcom24 reported.
The three other victims were an Italian man and woman and the skipper’s wife, who was Russian, reports La Repubblica.
