Everton outcast Dele Alli has been included in their squad for the club’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland as he looks to rescue his career following a nightmare spell in Turkey last year.

The Toffees head to the Swiss Alps for five days as Sean Dyche takes charge if his first pre-season camp as Everton boss, culminating in a clash with Stade Nyonnais in Nyon on Friday.

The majority of the first-team squad have been included on the trip, with only those on international duty missing out, meaning that there’s a place for Alli, having returned from his unsuccessful loan spell in Turkey with Besiktas.

Alli – whose career has floundered since his heyday at Tottenham – hasn’t played for the club since the start of last season and is yet to play under current boss Dyche, who was appointed manager in January.

The 27-year-old moved to Besiktas on a season-long loan last August hoping to resurrect his promising career and arrived with a big fanfare as fans flocked to see him sign for the club.

However, the midfielder failed to live up to the hype in Turkey and by October coach Senol Gunes stated that Alli was ‘below expectations in terms of efficiency’.

He made just 15 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and didn’t appear for the Turkish side after 26 February. He returned to Merseyside in April with an injury, putting an early end to his season-long loan.

Alli has had quite the fall from grace since becoming one of the Premier League’s most exiting youngsters upon his move to Spurs in 2015.

He was named PFA Young Player of the Year in both 2016 and 2017 and quickly earned international recognition, making his England debut before his 20th birthday.

Alli would go on to represent the Three Lions at the 2018 World Cup, scoring in England’s quarter-final win over Sweden.

However, after Mauricio Pochettino left Tottenham, Alli struggled for form and was famously singled out by then-Spurs boss Jose Mourinho for not demanding enough of himself during the Amazon documentary on the club.

Things failed to improve for Alli under Antonio Conte and he moved to Everton in January in 2022 under Frank Lampard.

Yet the move seemed to make no difference to Alli’s form and has since failed to register a goal or an assist in his 13 appearances for the club.
