A celebrity chef has burst into tears on live television after vegans cost him his relationship.
John Mountain, who runs Perth’s Fyre Restaurant, said he lost the woman he thought he would marry after she could no longer cope with the adverse attention animal rights activists were bringing to his swanky establishment.
Fyre has been the target of recent disruptive protests led by notorious vegan activist Tash Peterson after Mountain announced he would ban non-meat eaters from his restaurant last month following a blow-up with a dis-satisfied diner.
‘I lost my partner because of this, I lost a relationship, I thought I was going to marry this woman and she just couldn’t handle the amount of attention – thanks vegans,’ he told A Current Affair, choking back the tears.

But the UK-born restaurateur vowed to take revenge on the activists, declaring all vegans will remain ‘barred for life’ from his venues.
‘Now I’m going to start opening steak restaurants just to piss you off,’ Mountain said.
On Saturday night, Ms Peterson, along with a dozen other activists, barged their way inside Fyre, with a speaker loudly playing the sounds of pigs squealing in distress.
Protestors chanted and showed video of a pig being slaughtered with the audio amplified by a speaker.
Mountain was seen in footage charging out a number of times and scuffling with the demonstrators as he tried to wrestle the loud-speaker from Ms Peterson.
He told the program he ‘lost his cool’ because of the toll it was taking on him personally and professionally.
‘It’s really disrupting my business and I could see the look on my customers’ faces, my staff — they were all a little scared and a bit nervous and I just stormed out,’ said Mountain.
Mountain said police are set to lay charges and that the landowner has put in a trespassing notice to prevent Ms Peterson from coming near his business.

Ms Peterson has since sought to justify her form of protest in several social media posts.
‘We’re not going after this restaurant because they’re banning vegans — yes that was maybe a reason that instigated it — but at the end of the day it’s because this man is profiting from animal abuse and murder and he’s also glamourising it,’ she said on Sunday.
Ms Peterson, who goes by the name of ‘Vgan Booty’ on social media, had performed a similar stunt the weekend before.
Her actions may have backfired as Mountain claims his income has tripled after her protests.
Mountain claims after the clash his income has tripled and he has a lot of support.
‘I’m now in her words ‘having to murder more animals’ because of their actions,’ he said.
