Surprising reason Channel 10 chose three unknown Bachelor leads – as fans slam network for lack of diversity
The Bachelor is set to return for an eleventh season.
Despite shocking ratings for its last season, which featured three bachelors instead of one, Channel 10 has bravely decided to make another attempt to revive the franchise.
According to a show insider, the network was forced to settle for three relatively unknown bachelors after their search for a celebrity lead fell flat.
Wesley Senna Cortes, Ben Waddell and Luke Bateman are the everyday men who will step into the limelight in the pursuit of love, with Channel 10 promising this season to be the ‘most romantic yet’.
However, this approach has failed to satisfy fans who were keen for the series to adopt a fresh approach in an effort to reignite dwindling ratings.
Channel 10 has confirmed rumours that next year’s season of The Bachelor will again feature three suitors vying for love on the doomed dating series. (Pictured L-R: Brazilian-born Wesley Senna Cortes, model Ben Waddell and former NRL player Luke Bateman)
NRL star Braith Anasta confirmed last month he had turned down an invitation to be the next Bachelor, with The Sunday Telegraph reporting he was offered around $500,000 for the gig

Viewers have been quick to express their disappointment with the show’s direction and lack of diversity.
One frustrated fan questioned, ‘Can’t we go back to the original way so much better?’, while another sarcastically commented, ‘More middle of the road conventionally attractive white dudes. Yay how interesting.’
There have also been desperate pleas for a ‘golden bachelor’ representing those over the age of 50, and others expressing disappointment that there isn’t a candidate with a disability or identifying as bisexual.
