Channel Nine star Leila McKinnon made a shocking discovery after hearing noises in her kitchen at 4am on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old presenter revealed on Instagram, she found two brushtail possums hiding behind her fridge – with one appearing to be injured.
She then called the wildlife rescue to capture the marsupials and release them back into the wild.
However, later in the day, Leila revealed one of the possums had passed away.
‘Update, one of the two female possums has died. The other is happy and healthy and so is the joey in her pouch,’ she wrote.

It comes after Leila recently shared details about the accident that caused her shattered knee.
The Channel Nine presenter confirmed she’d injured herself skiing in 2021, posting a photo on Instagram of herself laid out on a stretcher on the snow with her right leg in a temporary brace.
‘Mountain 1 McKinnon 0,’ the Australian Ninja Warrior host wrote in the caption, suggesting she’d suffered a mishap on the slopes.

In the photo, McKinnon flipped the bird at the camera while still decked out in head-to-toe ski gear.
Her caption continued: ‘Thanks for all the love, your messages put a spring in my hobble… all tips for rehabilitation, good books, binge watches and podcasts gratefully received…’.
McKinnon then revealed that she’d been rushed into emergency surgery, and it initially appeared as though she had hurt her knee falling down a flight of stairs.
In her caption, she explained she had to get a pin in her shattered knee and also uploaded images of her X-rays.
