RICHARD EDEN: Heiress Nicky Hilton checks work at the London hotel opened by her great-grandfather Conrad in 1963

Heiress Nicky Hilton retraced the steps of her great-grandfather, Conrad, as she visited the London Hilton on Park Lane, which the hotel tycoon opened 60 years ago.

As seen in my exclusive picture, the American fashion designer, 39, who’s married to British banking scion James Rothschild, was welcomed to the hotel in Mayfair this week by a doorman. 

The Hilton family gave up control of the hotel chain in 2007.

‘She wanted to see the new atrium, which is part of this year’s multi-million-pound refurbishment,’ says my man at the five-star hotel.

‘Her sister, Paris, was also there.’

With 28 storeys, it was the first skyscraper hotel to be built in the capital. 

The Queen was said to have expressed dismay that guests could see into the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

Nicky and the 37-year-old son of the late Amschel Rothschild were married at the Orangery in Kensington Palace Gardens in 2015.
