A man has died in a mysterious workplace accident on a solar farm in regional NSW.

Emergency services were called to Wellington North Solar farm in Wuuluman, in the state’s mid west, just before 10am on Wednesday to reports a worker had collapsed.

A 41-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene, but despite their best efforts he could not be revived.

The solar farm – which is still under construction – is owned and operated by Lightsource BP,  one of the world’s largest solar energy developer companies and the biggest in Australia.

Daily Mail Australia understands the employee was a subcontractor for GRS, a photovoltaic plant construction company working to help build the site.

Officers from Orana Mid Western Police District attended and set up a crime scene which will be examined by specialist police. Safe Work NSW has been notified.

A Lightsource bp spokesperson said the company was deeply saddened by the worker’s death.

‘Our team is working closely with emergency services and is supporting all external investigations conducted by authorities and the principal contractor on site,’ the spokesperson said.

‘We cannot confirm any further details at this stage.

‘We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of the worker during this very difficult time.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted GRS for comment.

Lightsource BP, which is part owned by British energy major BP plc, entered Australia market in 2018 and has since become the nation’s biggest solar company.

The company has several operating solar farms across the country including at Wellington, and West Wyalong, in NSW and Woolooga in Queensland Gympie region.

There are also several projects under construction including sites at Wellington North and Wunghu, in north Victoria.

Construction on the Wellington North Solar farm began in 2019. According to the company’s website, the solar farm ‘will have an installed capacity of 174MW AC, producing 420,000MWh of clean, renewable electricity a year.’

Police will prepare a report about the man’s death for the coroner.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
