I’ve saved hundreds of dollars on petrol this year – this is my secret
- Alex Davidson, from Newcastle, uses the My 7-Eleven app for cheap fuel prices
- The store’s ‘fuel lock’ feature has saved her hundreds of dollars
A driver has discovered a budget-friendly hack to save up to $42 while re-filling your car’s fuel tank.
Alex Davidson, from Newcastle, recently revealed that she uses the My 7-Eleven app to ‘lock in’ the lowest petrol price in her area and redeems it the next time her car is low on gas.
The app ‘saves’ the prices for seven days – which is useful at a time where fuel prices fluctuate without warning.
Drivers can use the app’s search function to browse prices at 7-Eleven service stations around them and pick the amount and location that best suits their needs, but they can only use the ‘locked price’ once.
Alex was overjoyed after saving $18 on her recent fuel refill and vowed to never stop using the handy tool.

‘This is a PSA (public service announcement),’ Alex said in a clip.
‘This is your sign to ‘fuel lock’ your petrol prices if you’re not using the 7-Eleven app. I just saved $18 on my fuel because I locked in a good price and it lasts seven days!’
‘The guy behind the counter was literally shocked by how much I saved on petrol,’ she revealed.
Many other Aussie drivers shared the ‘crazy’ amounts they saved while using the little-known function.
‘I saved $42 once!’ a woman said. ‘Locked in Premium 98 for $1.60 in Bathurst and filled up in Sydney where it was $2.40.’
‘I saved $25 the other day, I was so happy,’ another added. ‘The prices have gone way up since I did it.’
‘I love 7-Eleven fuel lock – I’m pretty sure I’ve saved hundreds,’ a woman wrote.
Some even shared extra ways for drivers to get the most out of their savings.
‘Try locking it in on a Tuesday as I was told there’s a cheap Tuesday special,’ a man said.
‘There is a further hack, modify your phone virtual location to the cheapest in the country and then lock it!’ another revealed.
