Tourist slammed after asking innocent question about Bali: ‘Probably best you don’t return’

  • A woman asked for help ‘overcoming’ ‘mess’ in Bali
  • Commenters called her ‘narrow minded’

A concerned tourist’s plea for Bali to be cleaned up has seen her berated and accused of being ‘ignorant’ by other visitors.

The nurse asked other Bali tourists about their thoughts on the unclean streets of the tourist mecca.

‘I would like to know how you overcome the dirt and pollution on the streets mentally?,’ she wrote.

‘I don’t deny that Bali is essentially very beautiful but this mess ruined my vacation, I’m leaving here with a bitter taste.’

Dozens of commenters immediately defended Bali and accused the woman of being ‘narrow minded’.

The woman said the ‘dirt and pollution’ around Bali had ‘ruined’ her holiday, saying ‘I’m leaving here with a bitter taste’

‘Why don’t people research where they are going? Instead they see fake Instagram pictures and expect perfection,’ one person wrote.

‘Probably best you don’t return. Take it as it is. Concentrate on the beautiful people. It’s different to many places but is still great,’ another said.

‘Get out and travel more. The world is not as sanitary as your living place may be,’ a third commenter wrote.

‘Yes there’s rubbish but that is Bali for you. It’s sad for you that you can’t see beyond that,’ another wrote.

A fifth said: ‘Check your privilege or stay in a resort where you don’t have to bare witness to the truth.’

Other commenters shared their advice with most telling the woman to try focusing on the ‘beautiful’ parts of the island.

‘Look beyond it and appreciate where you are and what the people are trying to do to make your stay special,’ one wrote.

‘It’s all in what you choose to focus on. Yes, there’s trash and bad smells but there’s also so much beauty to take in,’ another said.

‘Bali is messy, often dirty, smelly and noisy – people are kidding themselves if they think otherwise – but there is also plenty of beauty throughout the island,’ another wrote.

‘I’m not sure what you thought you were coming to? There are more beautiful areas up in Ubud, for example,’ another said.
