Former LSU women’s basketball player Danielle Ballard has died at the of 29 after being hit by a car.
The incident happened at around 1.30am Thursday, Memphis Police Department said.
Officers, who responded to a pedestrian being struck at Coleman Road and Raleigh-Lagrange Road, reported the ex-player was taken to the hospital.
Ballard was taken to Regional One Health, according to WREG-TV, but was later pronounced dead.
A statement from cops read: ‘The driver stayed on the scene… This is an ongoing investigation.’

Ballard, 5-foot-9, was a three-year starter for LSU after being a four-star recruit from Central High School.
She received two SEC All-Defensive Team honors as well as an All-SEC First Team honor in the 2014-15 season.
With the Tigers Ballard averaged 21.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists through three seasons.
Tributes were paid on social media following her tragic death.
One post read: ‘Sad to hear about the passing of Danielle Ballard. What a dynamic guard she was. Played a huge role in Central’s 2011 state-title winner, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 boards in the final against Riverdale. Then had a good career at LSU too. Only 29. Prayers to her family.’
