She’s the Australian model who’s just celebrated her first wedding anniversary with AFL legend Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin.
AndJesinta Franklin has now claimed that ‘only a generation ago’ her nuptials ‘could have been opposed or prevented’ due to racial discrimination.
The David Jones ambassador made the assertion in a powerful essay she penned for Vogue Australia, in which she wrote of her support for same-sex marriage.

Jesinta stated that she wanted to publish the piece in the hopes that ‘someone from the LGBTIQ community reads this and feels somewhat less alone.’
The model opened her essay by detailing a laundry list of her own achievements, including her November 2016 nuptials to Buddy.
In case readers were confused as to why she was discussing her own life in a piece of prose about same-sex marriage, Jesinta clarified that her husband’s Indigenous heritage would once have meant their marriage would have been subject to similar discrimination.

‘You see, there have been lots of changes around marriage in Australia throughout history,’ Jesinta explained, showing off her ability to compose a persuasive piece of prose.
She added: ‘If some of these changes hadn’t occurred and if Lance and I had met only one generation ago, our marriage could have been opposed or prevented. My husband is an Indigenous man and I am a Caucasian woman.’
The beauty went on to explain she was thankful for people in history ‘who stood up for what was right’ so that laws were changed.

It’s not the first time Jesinta has lent her considerable influence to a political cause, as she previously entered into a debate around Australian history.
‘We were invaded’ Jesinta bluntly stated about British colonisation during a 2016 interview with the Today Show.

‘I don’t think a white person can determine what’s racism and what’s not, what affects someone and what doesn’t affect someone, ’cause it’s not our experience,’ she told the show’s hosts.
Given her powerful piece for Vogue, it’s unclear whether Jesinta will pursue a future career as a writer.
The brunette is reportedly a former A-Grade student who turned down a university scholarship to pursue modelling.
