The truth about Kyle Sandilands’ sudden absence from The Kyle and Jackie O show

Kyle Sandilands was nowhere to be seen (or heard) on The Kyle and Jackie O Show this morning.

The radio host, 52, was missing in action but his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, 48, gave the inside scoop on where he went.

‘Kyle’s still sick unfortunately,’ Jackie said, before detailing a mystery illness that seems to be ‘going around big time.’

Newsreader Brooklyn Ross said that he had been sick on Monday and wondered if he had given Kyle the ‘superbug.’

‘I reckon you’ve given it to him because he’s got exactly what you had,’ said Jackie O before asking Brooklyn to list symptoms.

‘Just a general cold,’ he said.

Jackie wondered whether a cold is really bad enough to be taking time off work.

‘You guys need to toughen up, I tell you,’ said Jackie.

Brooklyn suggested that the drug pseudoephedrine was ineffective against the symptoms of the ‘super cold’ so he couldn’t come into work.

Co-host Pedro Vitola, filling in for Kyle, speculated that the illness might be related to Jackie O’s earlier condition, where she had her own bizarre symptoms.

On Tuesday’s show she complained about her ailments to Dr Sam Hay, also known as Dr KIIS, detailing symptoms such as a blocked nose and a loss of smell and taste.  

Kyle had earlier joked to Dr Hay that Jackie was suffering common symptoms of menopause.

However, Dr Hay pointed out that Jackie’s other symptoms didn’t match up with the diagnosis of menopause.

‘It’s not necessarily [relevant]. We don’t lose our sense of smell when it comes to the menopausal stuff,’ he explained.

Jackie went on to reveal she’d been dealing with itchy and runny eyes.

‘She might have hayfever, or she might have a sinus infection that’s irritating those nose nerves,’ he speculated.

Kyle joked that Jackie had given herself a sinus infection by snorting illicit drugs during her visit to the trendy Clovelly Hotel in Sydney over the weekend.

Aghast, Jackie confirmed she wasn’t doing drugs at the venue, adding: ‘I am not doing that! Oh my god, I was there with my daughter as well… that makes no difference because I don’t do that.’

Dr Hay also suggested Jackie could have caught Hand, Foot and Mouth disease – a viral inflection that usually affects children but can be spread to adults.

Kyle eagerly volunteered to check Jackie’s feet for symptoms such as flakey skin and a rash.

‘[Jackie has] pretty nice feet. I’ve always looked at them, but never look at them that close… they’ve got the white toenails and everything,’ he enthused before confirming that she wasn’t displaying symptoms of the disease.
