Mason Greenwood could be offered a route back into professional football by an unnamed Albanian club, according to reports.

The 21-year-old is looking for a new team after United and the player decided to mutually part ways following the conclusion of an internal investigation.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted rape but the Crown Prosecution Service subsequently dropped the charges in February of this year after key witnesses withdrew and new material came to light.

United have bid to work with their academy graduate to help his transition out of Old Trafford and could be boosted by interest from an unnamed Albanian side, as reported by talkSPORT.

There was also reported interest in the Englishman from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, with the Middle Eastern side considering offering the player a £10m-a-year deal.

However, Gerrard rejected the possibility of signing Greenwood and labelled rumoured talk as ‘fake news’.

Serie A was also considered as a possible next destination before Jose Mourinho’s Roma side distanced themselves from the player.

Albania would provide a new stomping ground for the striker but has struggled in recent years, dropping down UEFA’s co-efficient rankings to 47th place.

The nation’s top-flight has just one team, Partizani, competing in UEFA competition as they attempt to come through the Europa Conference League qualifier stages.

Meanwhile, the forward explained he is seeking a new start in football in a statement posted earlier in the week where Greenwood explained it was the ‘best decision’.

‘Today’s [Monday] decision has been part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me,’ wrote Greenwood.

‘The best decision for us all, is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford, where my presence will not be a distraction for the club. I thank the club for their support since I joined aged seven. There will always be a part of me which is United.’
