A Channel Nine TV reporter has called out a ‘crazy’ parking sign that’s almost impossible to read as his car – and many others – get towed in the confusion.

Eddy Meyer, a senior reporter at the network’s Sydney newsroom, slammed the City of Sydney Council for a parking sign on York Street carrying no less than seven different instructions for drivers.

The sign marked the section of the street as a four hour parking zone, a loading zone, a bus zone, a no stopping zone and a special event clearway.

‘Are you serious with this sign?’ Meyer blew up – after coming back on Sunday to find his car gone.

Meyer criticised how the road was marked a clearway for ‘2pm – 9pm’ on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the long weekend.

But it seemed his car had been towed because that meant the clearway actually lasted from 2pm on the Saturday to 9pm on Monday – rather than on each individual day.

Meyer said he’d parked his car at 10.30pm, thinking he was in the clear.

‘Does that even make sense?’ he fumed. ‘So many others towed.’

He added the machine still gave him a parking ticket, despite it apparently being a clearway.

‘The way it’s laid out, it suggests a clearway on those days and between those times,’ he tweeted.

‘Thankfully, the towie passed and told us where the car was.’

The sign was slammed as ‘crazy’ on talkback radio on Tuesday morning.

Former parking inspector Arthur Birch also took issue with the sign.

‘All councils have to use the Australian standards … that state that where a sign has 2pm to 9pm that means on whatever day it refers to,’ he told 2GB Radio.

‘It’s clearly the case it should only apply between 2pm and 9pm (on the day).

‘Write letters to council and send an invoice for the towing fee, and claim it back from the council!’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the City of Sydney for comment.
