Lingerie model back in court for stealing cigarettes

A lingerie model jailed for crashing a BMW into a house after a high-speed police chase has returned to court after shoplifting cigarettes.

Yasmin Louize Katir was jailed for four months in May after smashing her friend’s £10,000 car into a wall while driving at speeds of up to 91mph.

The 27-year-old has now reappeared in court as she admitted to stealing cigarettes valued at £17.45 from a convenience store in Thornaby, near Middlesborough.

Appearing at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, she was fined £80 and ordered to pay £17.45 compensation with £70 court costs.

It comes only months after the mother was last in front of magistrates for stealing cigarettes and booze from Sainsbury’s in the same town on July 24.

Katir, of Fairfield, Stockton, had only just been released from prison after leading police officers on a high-speed chase.

She later claimed a male friend gave her permission to take the car – but he denied there was ever an agreement in place, the court heard.

CCTV footage showed her fleeing the car, along with a passenger who she claimed egged her on, after smashing it into a house.

Katir, who models lingerie for an online boutique, was visibly shocked to be sent to prison at Teesside Crown Court, putting her head in her hands as a judge delivered a damning critique of her behaviour.

She said as she was led from the dock: ‘I’m going to jail? Oh my God. You’re joking.’

In August, defence counsel Paul McGee described Katir as someone with ‘a very promising career’ who was due to start studying teaching at Durham University.

‘Since being sent to prison she has now lost that opportunity. She is trying to rebuild her life,’ he told the court.

‘She is the parent of a young child and she is trying to get back to university.’
