Shane Huici, 25, broke into Tannoch Brae Aged Care home and tried to rape a 90-year-old woman

A man has pleaded guilty to trying to rape an elderly woman at an aged care centre after he broke into the facility to commit the sickening act.

Former factory worker Shane Huici on Friday appeared at the County Court in Melbourne and admitted attempting to rape the 90-year-old woman.

Huici broke into Tannoch Brae Aged Care centre in St Albans, around 80km south west of Melbourne, in the early hours of August 15, 2021.

During a committal hearing in January 2022, police alleged he entered the woman’s room after he climbed in through an unlocked window before he orally raped her on her bed.

The court heard the woman allegedly woke up to find the 25-year-old man pinning her to the bed before she scrambled to set off a distress alarm nearby.

The woman was later rushed to hospital after she allegedly suffered injuries to her forearm and had multiple cuts to her lip.

Courts documents stated that the man unlawfully entered the centre, recklessly caused injury to the woman and stole two keys that belonged to the facility.

Dressed in a white shirt and sporting a buzz cut, Huici appeared via video link on Friday before pleading guilty to the lesser charge of attempted rape, as well as aggravated burglary, recklessly injuring the victim, and theft.

He will now no longer face trial for rape, which he had pleaded not guilty to.

The former forklift driver will front court again on April 3 next year for a plea hearing when the facts of the alleged offences will be mentioned.
