Harrowing footage taken in a zoo in Bangladesh shows an incredibly emaciated lion fighting for its life inside a dirty enclosure.
Juboraj the lion, who zoo officials said was in the condition because of age-related complications, was filmed lying on the floor, its rib cage visible beneath it’s taut skin.
Aged 18, the lion is a long time past its prime, however visitors have been shocked at the condition of Juboraj – with many refusing to visit or petitioning the centre over the alleged poor conditions.

Wasting away, some have called for the lion to be euthanized or for the zoo to try harder to feed it.
The animal is currently given its medication via darts fired from zoo keepers.

Barely able to lift itself to its feet, the lion was filmed patrolling its enclosure meekly before lying back down to rest again.
A petition calling for the President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid to look into the lion’s conditions and support has received almost 56,000 signatures.
The petition says: ‘Juboraj the lion is starving to death in Comilla Zoo in Bangladesh. He spends most of his days laying down without moving, and very rarely eats.
‘They have removed him from view so that his emaciated body doesn’t upset the public anymore, but he is still in critical condition.’

A zoo spokesperson told The Times of India: ‘Juboraj is in critical condition. We have called up veterinarians for his treatment in the past.
‘The veterinarians informed that a lion has an average life span of 14 years and Juboraj is already 18.
‘We brought him from the Chittagong Zoo eighteen years back.’
