Stephen Colbert, 59, CANCELS The Late Show episodes this week due to ruptured appendix

Stephen Colbert has cancelled all The Late Show  episodes this week as he has revealed he has suffered a ruptured appendix.

The 59-year-old chat show host – who welcomed previous host David Letterman to the program last week – took to social media to make the announcement.

The Late Show Instagram account posted which began: ‘A message from Stephen: Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week.’

He then added his signature humor to the serious post as he continued: ‘I’m sure you’re thinking, “Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?”

‘Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix.’

He went on to acknowledge his physicians and his family including wife of 30 years Evelyn McGee-Colbert.

Colbert continued: ‘I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me.

‘Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.’ 

Colbert has been hosting the signature late night CBS chat show since September 2015 where he took over for host of nearly 20 years David Letterman.

Just last week the 76-year-old television personality made his triumphant return to the program where he was treated like a king.
