Clack Island: Man in his 20s is attacked by a shark on the Great Barrier Reef and is airlifted to hospital

A man in his 20s has been mauled by a shark in Far North Queensland. 

Queensland Ambulance Service responded to a call for help just after 12.30pm on Thursday after a young man was bitten by a shark at Clack Island, in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, north of Cooktown.

It is understood he sustained injuries to his shoulder and bicep area and is in a stable condition. 

A rescue helicopter was sent to the scene from Cairns and he has been take to hospital.
