A newborn baby is fighting for life after a ‘freebirth’ gone wrong.
Paramedics were called to a home in Geelong on Tuesday morning after the woman gave birth to the baby without any medical assistance.
The baby was taken to University Hospital Geelong in a critical condition and has since been transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

The infant’s mother, who is in her 20s, is in a stable condition at University Hospital Geelong.
The practice – called freebirthing – is advised against by doctors as it can place the baby and mother at risk of harm.
It is different to a homebirth – which is a planned birth at home with a midwife in attendance.
