Kennedy granddaughter arrested at drunken house party

A Kennedy family member charged with disorderly conduct after police responded to a rowdy party is being sent to a pretrial diversion program.

Caroline Rose Kennedy was set to be arraigned in Barnstable, Massachusetts on Wednesday, but her hearing was rescheduled for March pending her completion of the program.

Officials say the case against the 22-year-old granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy will be dismissed if she successfully completes the program.

The program is offered to young first-time defendants facing certain minor offenses and includes community service, among other things.

Kennedy and her father Max Kennedy, 52, were arrested at a Hyannis Port home – just outside the Kennedy family’s historic Cape Cod compound – in August.

Police were called after receiving multiple complaints about a ‘loud party and fireworks’, according to the police report.

Max had screamed, threw himself at the wall and smashed a cabinet on the ground as he refused to cooperate with police prior to his arrest.

His daughter was also arrested after she allegedly opened the door of the police cruiser where her father had been placed in handcuffs.

Caroline had refused to give police her information and admitted to being drunk while she was booked.

Her father was described as ‘sweating profusely’ and had ‘noticeably’ blood-shot eyes.

Prosecutors dismissed the disorderly conduct charge against Max Kennedy earlier this month and he paid a $150 fine for a noise violation.

Max, the son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, is a writer and previously worked as a district attorney in Philadelphia.

The property where the party was thrown does not belong to the Kennedys – although Max lives elsewhere in Hyannis Port.

It is a nine-bedroom rental home known as the ‘Judy Garland House’ given the actress used to spend her summers there.
