Rob Lowe shares his ‘concern’ over the rising popularity of using diabetes drugs like Ozempic for weight loss

Rob Lowe expressed his ‘concern’ over the increasing popularity of weight loss drugs nowadays.

The 59-year-old actor, who is known for his committed approach to health and wellness, said weight loss aids, such as diabetes drugs like Ozempic, are ‘great’ but do not align with ‘longevity of everything’.

In an interview with People published on Monday, he shared his thoughts on the rise in people trying to lose weight using the FDA-approved prescription medication for people with type 2 diabetes.

The Unstable star — who celebrated his 33rd year of sobriety in May 2023 — added ‘lifestyle’ is more important to him.

‘I see people who are taking all the new weight loss drugs,’ he began. ‘That’s great, and it’s really changed their lives.’

‘But my concern always is, OK, now what? What’s the plan for the longevity of everything?’

Ahead of his 60th birthday, Lowe shared that he has become even more self-disciplined about his own health and wellness.

‘I’m trying to be even more disciplined now as I’m older just because as you get older, you need to watch what you eat even more than when you were younger,’ he explained.

One part of his life he is trying to maintain more discipline in is his sugar intake.

‘So I tried to cut sugar completely as my New Year’s resolution,’ he revealed. ‘And now I’m figuring, OK, that’s not sustainable for me, but how do I really watch my sugar consumption?’

Meanwhile, Lowe previously claimed that ‘science is catching up’ to his health-conscious lifestyle.

He recalled people mocking him in the past but now following suit in sleeping more, for example.

‘People used to make fun of me,’ he told GQ in October 2021. ‘But now the science is catching up — that it’s more than beauty sleep. It’s brain sleep, it’s body sleep, it’s focus.’

He also spoke about how he used to prioritize the amount of time he spent exercising.

Decades later, he has a ‘more strategic’ approach to training in the gym.

‘The other thing is, as a guy in my fifties, I’m training in a very different way than I used to,’ he said at the time.

‘The hardest thing for me has been to train less,’ he said. ‘I would train every day if I could — and frankly, kind of punishing myself.

‘If I don’t feel like I’ve just killed myself in the gym, I feel like it’s been wasted time,’ he admitted.

‘Turns out, that’s not true — it’s particularly not true when you’re not in your twenties and thirties anymore. So I’m really focusing on diet, rest, and being smarter and more strategic about the training.’
