Antiques Roadshow guest refuses to sell beloved 20th century statue despite its eye-watering valuation

An Antiques Roadshow guest has said the eye-watering valuation of her beloved statue ‘doesn’t matter’.

During the latest episode of the BBC show, a guest revealed she couldn’t bear to part ways with her antique despite its jaw-dropping value.

Expert Will Farmer analysed the beloved 20th century design from Lenci which left him in amazement.

He asked the owner: ‘Do you love her?’ and asked the guest’s daughters: ‘Now do you girls love her?’

Will explained: ‘She is a very, very special thing. So is the value.’

While Will was speaking, the owner looked completely unbothered and Will said ‘Now that is a really lovely mum shrug’.

The guest admitted: ‘Well it doesn’t matter because we wouldn’t sell it.’

Will told her: ‘That’s good. But if you had to replace it would be around £10,000 to £15,000.

‘One of the best makers made at a pivotal moment in their career. Beautifully decorated, fabulously painted.’

Will, who has a passion for 20th Century ceramics and glass, added: ‘I’ve always said that if I lost everything, went bust and ended up under a railway arch.

‘I’d be under a railway arch with my four silly, comic glass birds’.

The Lenci Company was established in Turin after the First World War around 1918.

It produced not only high-quality dolls, but luxury goods, toys, puppets and household wares, including decorative ceramics.

BBC Antiques Roadshow episodes are available to watch on BBC iPlayer and airs each Sunday on BBC One
