Bartle Frere: Desperate search for man missing on Queensland’s highest mountain

A frantic search is underway for a hiker missing on Queensland’s highest mountain. 

The man, aged in his 20s, is understood to have been hiking in dense bushland near Josephine Falls Road on Bartle Frere, a mountain 70km south of Cairns, on Tuesday. 

He was last heard from at 6.30pm, prompting emergency services to launch a search on the 1,622m high mountain until late on Tuesday night. 

The search resumed at 6am on Wednesday.
