Ayr come the girls! Racegoers brave grey skies as they don frills and fascinators to attend the Scottish Grand National

Revellers donned large fascinators, mesh tops and frilly neon frocks at the Scottish Grand National today.

The event is held at Ayr Racecourse and promises a day filled with nail-biting racing, booze and fabulous entertainment.

Donning their finest ensembles, racegoers put their best feet forward and stepped out in overcast weather to parade their outfits on Ladies Day.

And while the festival is all about horse racing, today stylish fans will compete to win prizes for the best dressed.

One woman had her eye on the cash as she sported a tulle hot pink dip hem dress that showed off her figure. She completed the look with a large rose fascinator, wearing her hair tucked back in a bun.

Twin sisters posed for photos and exhibited their hippie-chic matching outfits consisting of varying shades of pinks, florals and and fringes

Her friend opted for more of a classic look with a monochrome spotted one-shoulder top paired smart white trousers and pink heels, bag and fascinator.

Despite the weather in Ayr being cloudy and only 11 degrees, that didn’t stop revellers from flashing their flesh in daring strappy dresses and low-cut frocks.

As they sought to amp up the glitz, attendees showcased bold ensembles, sporting bodycon frocks and sky high heels – with many opting for eye-catching hats too.

Another woman channeled spring in a risque green patterned halterneck dress, which left her back exposed to the blustery weather.

She matched her ensemble with a lime green satin bag which she slung over her shoulder and matching pointed heels.

The racegoer looked in high spirits as she posed with a drink in her hand  next to her friend, who decided on an orange floral frilly grown.

A noticeable trend among racegoers was the colour palettes, with a vibrant spectrum of hues on show.

While some opted for pastels shades of pink, others wore colours that were much more bold.

One trend that seemed almost ubiquitous among racegoers was high heels, with many braving the discomfort in vertiginous strappy sandals

And while some racegoers braved the cold in favour of showcasing their ensembles , others were more sensible and incorporated it into their outfits.

One reveller put on a very leggy display when she opted to wear a racing green off-the-shoulder gown.

But a reveller slipped on a white embroidered gown which had intricate fringe and bead detailing on it.

The sensible woman paired this with a pair of retro eggshell heels, a box bag, luxurious taupe fur shawl and an enormous fascinator.

From a classic pointed kitten heel to espadrilles, those competing for the Ladies Day style prizes went all out to get noticed by judges.
