Parma boy aged 12 dead after Cleveland shooting

Abdel Bashiti, 12, was killed in the tragic Cleveland shooting between two groups of teenagers Friday night

It has been revealed that it was a 12-year-old male student who was killed in the tragic Cleveland shooting between two groups of teenagers Friday night.

Abdel Bashiti, of Parma, was shot Friday night when he and his father walked out onto the street after gunfire erupted outside.

Family members say the young boy, who was killed by a stray bullet during the gun attack near his father’s beauty supply store, was a good student who loved sports.

Five teen boys between the ages of 14 and 16 standing in front of a liquor store next door were wounded, including a 16-year-old hospitalized with a head wound.

Relatives told Cleveland.com that Abdel was a seventh-grader who was celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday with family members from all over the country. They say he only occasionally helped his father at the store.

Activists and local residents held a march in Abdel’s memory to honor the young boy. They also organized a rally to raise awareness and end violence on Saturday evening.

The children, all of whom were aged 12 to 16 and male, were in two separate groups when the shots began at 7:30pm Friday night.

It is not clear what prompted the fight, but police have stated they don’t believe the young boys were part of any gangs, they merely ‘crossed paths’.

Police Chief Calvin Williams sent his condolences to the family of the dead child.

Williams says police are investigating and are appealing for the public’s help in finding out who did the shooting.

‘Kids crossed paths and shots were fired. We don’t exactly know what spurred this or what happened, but definitely, our hearts go out to the families of the victims here,’ he said.
