- Wigan manager Paul Cook looks to have found the winning formula this season
- Erhun Oztumer bagged the stunning goal of the week against Wimbledon
- Five wins in their last five means Scunthorpe are flying and the team to beat
After another busy weekend of League One action, Sportsmail’s TOM FARMERY reflects on the thrills and spills…
HERO OF THE WEEK
Paul Cook: After Wigan went down from the Championship, you assumed they would cruise to promotion this year. It isn’t that easy. Indeed, the first couple of months were hit and miss. Now it seems manager Cook has found the right formula. A 3-1 win at Rotherham put them top of the pile for the first time this season.
ZERO OF THE WEEK
Paul Warne: The Rotherham boss may have the division’s top scorer in 13-goal Kieffer Moore, but it doesn’t matter a jot if you concede so many. The Millers haven’t won in the league since mid-October. Now it’s four defeats in six and six points off the drop zone.
Erhun Oztumer’s long range stunner against Wimbledon was undoubtedly goal of the week
GOAL OF THE WEEK
Erhun Oztumer (Walsall v AFC Wimbledon): Perhaps extra kicking practice is needed by Wimbledon keeper George Long, whose miscued clearance arrived at the feet of Oztumer. He took a touch before unleashing a left-footed strike from 25 yards that finished in the top corner. Another great strike by the self-styled Turkish Messi.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Paul Hurst after his Shrewsbury side slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Bradford which allowed Wigan to claim top spot. ‘I feel a bit strange at the minute. I’m disappointed that we’ve lost, but overall I’m quite happy.’
STAT OF THE WEEK
Five wins in their last five games means Scunthorpe are flying. Graham Alexander’s side go from strength to strength and a 2-0 home win over Charlton put them just four points off the top.
