Fans have taken to social media to mock Gary Neville after he suggested Manchester United should have been awarded a penalty during their clash with Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s men had taken the lead inside 20 minutes thanks to Leandro Trossard’s close-range strike.

As United seeked an equaliser, Amad Diallo went down inside the box from  Thomas Partey’s outstretched leg after 36 minutes. The referee waved play on and the VAR cleared the incident.

Neville seemed to suggest that Partey caught Diallo, saying: ‘The only question is that Partey is on the floor and just sticks his right leg out.

‘Just watch Partey’s right leg there. Pffft hmmm. The Arsenal midfield player just ooooooh. Does he kick the ball? I’m not sure…’

Fans slammed Neville’s commentary as ‘biased’ while

One said: ‘Gary Neville…. So biased it is incredible. Trying to make a penalty out of something everyone else says isn’t. Why is he allowed to co commentate on his teams games???’

Another wrote: ‘Gary Neville desperate for his beloved United to be awarded a penalty for absolutely nothing. Biased commentary as always on Sky’.

‘Gary Neville crying on sky thinking that tackle by Partey is a penalty on diallo’, a third posted on X.

Meanwhile, former United striker Rooney insisted it was not a penalty but claimed Partey was ‘very lucky’.

‘He said: I don’t think it’s a penalty. I think partey is very lucky. He goes off his feet early, and then he fortunately, just gets a little nick on the ball. So for me, it’s not a penalty, but partey is very lucky here.
