Geek Girl fans feel nostalgic as ‘phenomenal’ new series debuts on Netflix leaving them remarking: ‘It is so good I cried’

Geek Girl fans are hailing the new Netflix adaption of the book series as ‘phenomenal’ after it dropped on the streaming platform on Thursday.

Based on the popular series of young adult novels by former teen model Holly Smale, the fictional series spanned six books which were released between 2013 and 2017.

Drawing inspiration from Holly’s own experiences as a model, the series proved to be a hit with teenage readers.

The plot of the new series centres around the life of 16-year-old Harriet Manners, played by Emily Carey, who is a student at Hollybridge Secondary School.

Having rushed to watch the new series, fans of the show were effusive in their praise, as they wrote on X, formerly Twitter: ‘Geek Girl on Netflix is so good I cried’.

‘None of you understand what this means to me. Those books were the only books I liked as a child, I read them obsessively [it was] literally my first ever hyperfixation. What if I die I’m so excited’.

‘Absolutely crying because Geek Girl on Netflix is everything I could’ve wanted and more, and I’m only 15 mins in. Toby is exactly how I pictured him and I can’t stop beaming.

‘Holly Smale bringing the comfort of my teenage years to life on the screen in the best way’.

‘Geek Girl on Netflix is such a fun show so far’.

The show explores the story of the socially awkward and often bullied Harriet, who is plunged into the world of fashion after being discovered by a modeling agent during a school trip.

This gives her the chance to change her life dramatically, as she has the opportunity to evolve from a clumsy teenager into a rising star.

However, her new life is anything but glamorous, as tension abounds between Harriet and her fashion-obsessed best friend, Nat (Rochelle Harrington), and with established model Poppy Hepple-Cartwright (Daisy Jelley), who sees Harriet as a threat.

Despite her anxieties, Harriet navigates the pressures with the support of her father, Richard (Tim Downie), her protective stepmother, Annabel (Jemima Rooper), and her fellow geeky classmate Toby (Zac Looker).

And her crush on fellow model Nick Park (Woodrum) is a nice distraction, too.

Geek Girl is available to stream on Netflix now.
