Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will play together at US Open with Xander Schauffele completing blockbuster group at Pinehurst

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy will play together in the opening two rounds at this week’s US Open at Pinehurst.

They will be joined by newly-crowned PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele, meaning the top three players in the world will be grouped together in North Carolina.

The heavyweight trio will tee off from the first at 1:14pm ET on Thursday and on the 10th at 7:29am on Friday. 

Elsewhere, Tiger Woods will play his first two rounds with Matthew Fitzpatrick and Will Zalatoris.

They will start on the 10th at 7:29am on Thursday and from the first at 1:14pm on Friday.

There are a number of eye-catching groups elsewhere among the field, too.

Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Brooks Koepka are all major champions and will be hoping to add another this week.

Another trio of major champions – Hideki Matsuyama, Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth – will tee it up together as well.
