Donald Sutherland dead at 88: Star of Mash and Hunger Games’ passing announced by actor son Kiefer

Hollywood icon Donald Sutherland has died aged 88.

The veteran Canadian actor’s death from a long illness was announced by his movie star son Kiefer Sutherland Thursday. 

He died in Miami, according to his talent agency CAA. 

Sutherland’s career spanned over 60 years and included appearances as the evil President Snow in The Hunger Games franchise.

The Emmy and Golden Globe winner also appeared on MASH, Klute and the 1970s horror movie Don’t Look Now.

In 2022, he appeared on what would be his last projects, Lawmen: Bass Reeves and Swimming With Sharks.

Sutherland won an Emmy in 1995 for his role on Citizen X, and was nominated in 2006 for Human Trafficking, as reported by Variety. 

His breakout role came in the 1970’s comedy smash hit MASH, which turned him into a major Hollywood star.

Sutherland is survived by Keith and his twin sister Rachel from his marriage to ex-wife Shirley Douglas.

He also leaves behind his wife Francine Racette and their three adult sons.
