Harry Kane was sent tumbling into the England dugout and collided with Gareth Southgate during their quarter-final clash with Switzerland on Saturday.

In the latter stages of extra-time, the England captain was battling for the ball with opposing defender Manuel Akanji before crashing into the Three Lions dugout.

Just minutes later, the England captain was substituted off after appearing to injure his leg in the bizarre incident in the second-half of extra-time.

The incident came at a terrible time for England, with the score tied at 0-0 and penalties looming – with Kane being the side’s recognised penalty taker.

The late incident capped off a frustrating afternoon for the Bayern Munich star, who was kept quiet by the Switzerland defence throughout the match.

During the game, Jamie O’Hara described Kane as England’s version of Cristiano Ronaldo as he slammed the Three Lions captain’s display.

He told talkSPORT: ‘He doesn’t look fit, he’s being lazy. He’s really annoying me.’

‘I’m worried that we’ve got a Ronaldo in the team, and that we have to play him.’

O’Hara wasn’t the only person to criticise the England captain during the first-half.

Bukayo Saka put a dangerous ball into the Switzerland box during the opening 45 minutes, though Kane didn’t appear to be too desperate in his attempts to get on the end of it.

BBC commentator Alan Shearer said: ‘That is a good ball and Bukayo Saka has every chance to say, ‘where are you?’

‘Saka is waiting for someone to get into he box and Harry Kane doesn’t move at all really.’

The comparisons to Ronaldo are damning indictment on the England captain, as the Portuguese star struggled throughout Euro 2024.
