Jenny McCarthy recalls getting her period during ‘disaster’ episode of The View that ‘horrified’ cast and crew

A decade later, Jenny McCarthy is looking back on a messy situation she found herself in during an episode of The View.

The former Playboy Playmate of the Year, 51, recalled getting a perimenopausal period that ‘horrified’ her co-stars during an interview on the roundtable talk show.

‘I’m on the blue couch, you know the half-moon couch that they have all the guests sit [on],’ McCarthy told Kelly Ripa on her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast.

She continued, ‘All of a sudden, my eyes go wide because I just feel like this rush of a period.

‘And when [you’re] in your 40s, when you’re perimenopausal, you bleed out,’ McCarthy explained.

‘You basically hemorrhage, you know, your uterus falls out. I’m sorry. But it does.’

McCarthy said she started to cross her legs ‘harder’ as she ‘was wearing a freaking dress’ and could feel blood running down her legs during the interview.

The Scream 3 actress wrapped the interview early and stuck around onstage while everyone else got up, attempting to call a crew member over.

‘Someone came over and I explained to them, and they’re like, “It’s gonna be fine. Just get up and run,” she said.

McCarthy recalled telling them, ‘”You don’t understand perimenopausal periods. This is going to be a disaster. You have to push me out with the couch!”

She said everyone could see the blood on her dress as she ran backstage. ‘They were all horrified,’ she added.

McCarthy briefly served as a co-host on The View from 2013 to 2014, when ABC reportedly opted not to renew her contract.

The John Tucker Must Die actress told Access Hollywood the decision was mutual after she was brought on to ‘make it lighter and more pop culture fun’ in Barbara Walters’ final year on the show.

‘It’s just obvious after being a part of the table they want more conflict and debate,’ she said in 2014.

‘You can’t really have five democrats sitting around a table,’ added McCarthy. ‘It was mutual. I can’t be a part of this and they agreed. They want a right wing tough badass in there.’

McCarthy explained, ‘It’s not weird because it wasn’t, ‘You’re fired, get out,’ it was very peaceful – there was no reason for either of our sides to end abruptly. It was wonderful kind of, for me, I look at it like a college course I took with Barbara Walters.’

Later that year, she began hosting SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show (then titled Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy).

Since 2019, McCarthy has served as a panelist on Fox’s The Masked Singer.
