AI fears: Universal, whose artists include Ariana Grande (pictured) has been pushing to sign deals with social media firms
Universal Music has inked a deal with Facebook owner Meta as it tries to calm concerns over artificial intelligence.
The world’s biggest music label signed an agreement with the social media giant which will allow users to share songs without breaching copyright.
Universal, whose artists include Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift, has been pushing to sign deals with social media firms to ensure its musicians are properly paid for their hits.
The deal with Meta, which also owns Instagram, will also address ‘unauthorized AI-generated content’.
That includes songs pushed through AI systems – often without permission from singers – and reworked into new versions.
Rivals Sony Music and Warner Music have also raised alarm bells about the impact of AI.
