Labour suspends activist over anti-Semitism allegations

  • Account tweeted messages including anti-Semitic slurs and holocaust denial

Labour has suspended another activist over allegations of anti-Semitism after they were linked to a Twitter account which published slurs and holocaust denial.

Laura Stuart is one of several people who are thought to post on @GazaBoatConvoy, which describes itself as a pro-Palestine campaign.

At least one message claimed there ‘must still be plenty shekels to be wrung out of the memory of the Holocaust’ and used the hashtag #HolocaustIndustry.

Another post claimed ‘Jews love money and are a bunch of crooks’.

The Jewish Chronicle said Ms Stuart was suspended following a complaint from Councillor Adam Langleblen, who said a private complaint in July had not been dealt with.

MOMENTUM SET TO WIN FIRST COUNCIL

The Momentum pressure group set up to protect Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership is poised to seize its first council.

Candidates endorsed by the left-wing activists are expected to win a majority at elections in May.

Momentum-backed councillors have replaced Labour veterans on the ballot paper in what critics have warned is a ‘purge’ of moderates.

Haringey councillor Barbara Blake, who decided to step down after being targeted, blamed Momentum for ‘ruthless attacks’.

Ex-cabinet member Ali Demerci said on Twitter: ‘You have to be really naive to believe this is not a purge by Momentum.’

He shared some of the ‘nasty’ anti-Semitic posts and said they were posted by a Labour member as he called for the party to act.

Mr Langleblen did not name Ms Stuart but she was inadvertently named by a Labour party statement to the Jewish Chronicle which was later corrected.

Mr Langleblen said: ‘There is a member of the Labour Party in the constituency where I am a councillor.

‘She is an antisemite.

‘I put in a complaint in July and to date no action has been taken.

‘She continues to attend meetings and take part in street stalls.

‘I believe in due process and I had hoped that my formal complaint would lead to a swift and speedy conclusion but it has not.

‘The person runs the GazaBoatConvoy twitter account and it is an example of how supposedly pro-Palestinian activists bastardise the Palestinian cause to pursue their antisemitism.’

Following the public complaint, a Labour spokesman told the JC: ‘Laura Stuart has been suspended from Labour Party pending an investigation.’

A spokeswoman told MailOnline: ‘A Labour Party member has been suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation into this case.

‘The Labour Party is committed to challenging and campaigning against antisemitism in all its forms.’

After the suspension emerged, the GazaBoatConvoy accounted insisted ‘for clarification this is a GROUP account’.
