Florida football is in mourning after a high school player collapsed and died during a game in Port St Joe on Friday night.
Chance Gainer, 18, was rushed to the hospital after his sudden collapse but the senior was later pronounced dead.
Coaches reportedly rushed to the wide receiver’s side on the field but they were unable to save his life.
The game at Liberty High School was immediately halted, according to WMBB, with next week’s game already postponed.
Gulf County Superintendent Jim Norton branded Gainer ‘one of the best young men ever to walk the halls at Port St. Joe High School.’

Norton also revealed that the 18-year-old honors student did not have a pulse when paramedics first treated him. They did, however, detect one before he was put in an ambulance.
According to concussion campaigners, Gainer is the 12th football player this year to have died.
Reports claim that the late football star had a grade point average above 4.0 and that he recently visited Vanderbilt University to discuss a possible move there.
