Cody Simpson has announced his next career move, after failing to qualify to compete for Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The singer-turned-competitive swimmer, 27, is set to perform at the MCG later this month at the AFL grand final, alongside American pop star Katy Perry.
Simpson, who previously performed at the 2022 AFLW grand final, confirmed the exciting news on Wednesday in a statement.
‘I’m stoked beyond words to have been asked to sing the biggest national anthem of the year at the AFL grand final,’ Cody began.
‘It’s a special and timely opportunity for me to step back on stage for the first time after my sporting career.’
Cody added he felt honoured to be given the position and couldn’t wait to entertain thousands of footy fans with his rendition of the national anthem.
‘As an Australian, it’s one of the greatest honours and I hope I can deliver something that everyone can sing along to and share in the pride of being a member of this beautiful country.’
The AFL grand final will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday, September 28.
