While Troy Aikman kept it together in the public eye, he revealed that he had secretly hit ‘rock bottom’ amid the fallout of his second marriage with Catherine ‘Capa’ Mooty.
Rarely discussing his private life, the veteran NFL broadcaster shared how the collapse of their union sent him to a dark place in an interview with The Athletic.
‘A failure. That was my rock bottom,’ the Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback said of the marriage.
Aikman and Capa tied the knot in a small ceremony in California in September 2017, three months after he proposed during a trip to Lake Como, Italy. The pair reportedly dated for a year before the proposal.
Further into the interview, The Athletic pinned contentment as the catalyst for their fallout after robbing Aikman of his happiness.

Reports of their divorce came after Aikman’s relationship with Haley Clark went public
‘For me, contentment was always a four-letter word. I never wanted to be content,’ Aikman said. ‘I didn’t wanna be around anyone who was content. That’s just not a place I could land.’
Aikman was ‘one day looking up and realized his second marriage was crumbling,’ per the Athletic.
‘The success everyone saw masked the inner turmoil no one knew about. Aikman’s wrestled with it for decades, warring against his own happiness, chasing a finish line he isn’t even sure exists.’
With the divorce in hindsight, the Athletic noted how Aikman is taking care of himself at age 57.
Aside from lifting four days a week, Aikman ‘hasn’t taken a warm shower in years. He starts each morning with a cold one and a 20-minute walk in low-level sunlight to set his circadian rhythm. He’s in bed by 9pm unless he’s calling a game,’ per The Athletic.
Aikman has two twenty-something daughters – Alexa and Jordan – from his first marriage to former Cowboys publicist Rhonda Worthey. They announced their split in January 2011 after a decade-long marriage.

Meanwhile, Aikman did not announce his split with Capa and admitted being embarrassed for talking about it years later. Capa still uses Aikman’s surname on her Instagram.
News of Aikman and Capa’s split came after the former went public with his rumored girlfriend – Haley Clark – in June 2023. Clark, a salesperson for a men’s clothing brand from Dallas shared photos with Aikman on a trip to Italy.
The following month, PEOPLE reported that Capa and Aikman were officially divorced.
Capa, who co-owns mobile shopping service Luxeliner, has two sons from her marriage to real estate lawyer Jerry Mooty.
The status of Aikman and Clark’s relationship remains unclear.
