Philly Super Bowl hero Nick Foles was honored at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night as the quarterback retired from the NFL as a member of the Eagles.
It was in Super Bowl LII at the end of the 2017 season that Foles – who had stepped in for an injured Carson Wentz less than two months prior – put together a legendary four-touchdown performance to give the Eagles the win over the Patriots.
And while the passer hasn’t played for Philly since the 2019 season, he returned to his old team on Monday after announcing his retirement last month.
Foles served as an honorary captain ahead of Monday night’s home opener against the Falcons and led the crowd in a rendition of ‘Fly, Eagles, Fly.’
He also received a standing ovation from the fanbase who watched him led the team to its first ever Super Bowl win.

Foles, 35, gave a lengthy retirement speech to media earlier in the day prior to the game
Earlier in the day, he also appeared on ESPN’s Monday Night Football coverage, as ex-teammate Jason Kelce brought him and fellow ex-Eagle Fletcher Cox onstage to hype up the Philly crowd.
The Eagles also posted a picture of him signing retirement papers alongside team owner Jeffrey Lurie.
During his retirement speech, he made sure to shout out the Philly fans who were there for the championship run he led.
‘One of my favorite moments is the NFC Championship Game when, we’re about to do our 7-on-7 warmups, and y’all were so loud, dancing, we were dancing,’ he said.
‘I had to pause and just watch and take it in and realize how blessed I was to play for a great city, a great organization.’
Foles was the team’s backup quarterback in the 2017 season until Week 14 when he took over for Wentz.

The former threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns against the Patriots in the Super Bowl but is best remembered for the ‘Philly Special,’ a gadget play that saw him catch a touchdown from tight end Trey Burton.
That would help the Eagles ultimately earn a 41-33 win and cement Foles’ place as a franchise legend.
He started just five more games for the franchise the following season before stints with the Jaguars, Bears and Colts.
He last took the field for Indianapolis during the 2022 season.
